The Island Council of Gran Canaria |
GRAN CANARIA INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF DIGITAL ART AND CULTURES |
|
call for entries to the 13th CanariasMediafest |
http://www.canariasmediafest.org/doc/rules.pdf |
Artists and authors (individuals or collectives) of any nationality may participate in this competition, without prejudice to the special prizes for Canary Islands authors established in Article 6.
The authors shall be understood exclusively as the persons responsible for creating the work. Participation is restricted to works produced after January 1st 2007. Films will not be accepted, except in the case of documentaries and animation films produced for subsequent video distribution, although film excerpts forming part of the works presented will be accepted.
The Festival Organisation assumes that the individuals or collectives entering works hold the exhibition rights for the works they present. Notwithstanding, the Festival Organisation will not accept any legal liability that may arise from the infringement of the terms of this paragraph.
The contest consists of four international categories:
A. Video Art
B. Experimental or Artistic Documentary
C. 2D or 3D Animation
D. Media Art
A. Video Art will be considered any single-channel work whose contents are specifically related to research and/or experimentation on the audiovisual media and their possibilities, with a criterion of artistic expression. The work must have no other purpose or intended use, must not consist entirely of computer animation, and must have a structure which differentiates it from other categories. This category also includes single-channel video projection (screen art).
B. Experimental or Artistic Documentary is understood as an audiovisual work which, without using fiction as an end in itself, serves as a means of analysing reality, or of artistically investigating current events or historical interpretation. The experimental nature of the documentary must be clear not only in the narration, composition and editing, but also in all of its constituent parts. Documentaries may deal with productions on art, ecology, literature, travel and exploration, anthropology, technology and science, and so on.
C. Animation includes works made specifically through computer animation in 2D or 3D, or presented primarily in electronically produced virtual spaces, as well as works made using traditional animation techniques.
D. Media Art includes digital art (multimedia or for Internet), as well as produced multimedia, multi-channel, interactive and performance installation.
This category covers a variety of formats such as offline multimedia art (without Internet connection), such as software art, game art and so on, as well as online art, also known as net art, web art, net-work and telematic art. All of these terms define works whose principal features are that they are accessible through Internet, have been produced and conceived for Internet (net-based art) and include interactive or hypertextual resources.
Media Art also includes expanded or hybrid formats which occupy a specific physical area or are site-specific productions, giving rise to the experience of time and the process, as well as the presence, participation or interaction of the audience or the artist. These formats use electronic and/or digital technologies (audiovisual, computerised, telematic), as in the case of interactive installations (based on technical interfaces which allow dialogic relations to be established between the audience and the work or system); multichannel audiovisual installations; closed circuit installations, audio installations and so on.
Single-channel video projection works and projects for works which have not been completely produced will not be accepted.
A maximum of two (2) works will be permitted per contestant for each category. Audiovisual works must be no longer than thirtyfive minutes (35´), although the Festival Organisation may consider longer works, as an exception, provided that the author also sends a demo of a maximum of five minutes (5´).
Language: in the case of works where a language other than Spanish or English is used, subtitles in at least one of these languages must be included.
Prizes are as follows:
- Four (4) prizes consisting of a trophy and five thousand euros (€ 5,000) in cash for each of the following international categories:
- Video art
- Experimental or Artistic Documentary
- 2D or 3D Animation
- Media Art (Produced multimedia, multi-channel, interactive or performance installation. Digital art: multimedia or for Internet. Audio installations)
- Three (3) special prizes, consisting of a trophy and two thousand euros (€ 2,000) in cash for each of the best Canary Islands authors in the following categories:
- Experimental or artistic documentary
- Video art
- Animation |
