| The International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film |
| DOK Leipzig |
| |
| World, International and European premieres are favored. |
| http://www.dok-leipzig.de/v2/cms/en/118/regulation |
| The International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film - DOK Leipzig – is the largest German and one of the leading international festivals for artistic documentary and animated films.
Artistic animated film is an integral part of the festival for decades and is represented with its own, independent competition since 1995. This ‘twin-track character’ makes Leipzig unique in the festival landscape.
Under the motto “The HeArt of Documentary”, the Festival serves the promotion and increased circulation of international documentary and animated films and provides film-makers, producers, distributors, commissioning editors, journalists and media scientists with an opportunity to meet and exchange views with each other as well as with the Leipzig cinema audiences.
DOK Leipzig has the following competitive sections:
International Competition for Documentary Film
International Competition for Animated Film
International Young Documentary Talent Competition – Generation DOK
German Competition for Documentary Film
The 2008 competitions are open to:
documentary films and videos of any length
animated films and videos of up to 45 minutes length
animadok films and videos (hybrids between documentary and animated films) of any length
For the International Competition for Documentary Film only those films can be selected that have never been screened in Germany before (including the Prix Europa). World, international or European premieres will be favoured.
For Generation DOK – the International Young Talent Competition for Documentary Film – only films of such directors shall qualify who have not made more than 3 films prior to the one submitted (excluding those during their training). The films submitted must have had no prior screening in Germany, either. World, international or European premieres will be favoured.
In the German Competition for Documentary Film world premieres will be favoured.
World, international, European or German premieres will be favoured for the International Competition for Animated Film. The prize for the best German animated film will be awarded as part of the International Competition for Animated Film.
A screening on TV in Germany before the end of the festival will disqualify a film from any competition.
The Festival accepts entries which can be screened as 16 or 35 mm film prints or as videos in the formats High Definition, Beta Digital PAL or Betacam SP PAL. Films selected for a competitive section will be screened in their original version; documentary films are translated simultaneously into German and English via headphones or are screened in a subtitled version in German or English. HD can only be screened in selected cinemas and programme sections.
Documentary film productions submitted to the Festival must not have been shown publicly prior to 1 October 2007.
Animated film productions submitted to the Festival must not have been shown publicly prior to 15 March 2007.
Films and videos, that have been completed prior to 1 May 2008, must be submitted by 30 May 2008. All other entries must be sent to the festival’s office by 18 July 2008 (date of the incoming mail). It is requested to send the films as soon as possible.
The film entry assumes unrestricted acceptance of the Festival regulations. By entering their film, applicants agree to the selection of their entry for one of the competitive or other Festival programmes.
For submitting a film please fill in the official entry form on-line which is to be found here. After we have registered the entry form you will get a confirmation by e-mail and a pdf of the filled in entry form. |

| Imaginary Property |
| |
| research project |
| Artists, designers and theoreticians are invited to submit proposals for individual or collective research projects for a one-year, two-year or variable research period in the department of Design.
The research project Imaginary Property consists of three parts that are inextricably linked up with each other and are to be addressed simultaneously rather than consecutively.
The first part is analytical in nature and traces the primarily non-juridical impact as well as the practical implications of the concept of ‘imaginary property’ through various disciplines such as philosophy, psychoanalysis, economics, cybernetics, architecture, new media and design theory. The analytical part will start off with a symposium (on 6th June) that shows the scope of the project and its impact on contemporary design practices. The symposium will bring about an interview and lecture series in which guest speakers partake.
The second part consists of a series of evaluations and examinations of experimental design, ‘counter-design’ or ‘re-design’ projects. Specific proposals for new models of ownership based on open-source and free circulation of networked images will be developed and realized. Supposing that images are the products of struggles for imagination, this part examines in a practical way how social relationships are configured, designed and performed in connection with the images that are supposed to be owned, used and displayed as one's property. The relationship between the owner of an image and the image owned is not at issue in this project.
The research project Imaginary Property is looking for design practitioners who wish to tackle fundamental issues and query conventions of disciplines such as film, multimedia, web design, networking and architecture. It further seeks to involve theory-minded researchers who are not afraid of ‘an image’.
Symposium: 6 June 2008
Candidates interested in this project can apply by submitting a research proposal. Selected candidates gain the position of researcher at the Design department of the Jan van Eyck Academie. |
